New Delhi:
The first hour of the newly-formed Assembly in Jammu and Kashmir was marked with chaos after People’s Democratic Party (PDP) MLA Waheed Para introduced a resolution opposing the abrogation of Article 370.
A ruckus broke out in the Assembly after Para’s resolution on Article 370, which was strongly opposed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs. The BJP demanded that Para’s remarks be expunged and accused him of violating the rules of the Assembly.
Additionally, People’s Conference leader Sajjad Lone taunted Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for giving Kashmiri shawls to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his Delhi visit.
PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti hailed Waheed Para’s resolution in the J&K Assembly. “Proud of Waheed Parra for introducing resolution in JK Assembly opposing the revocation of Article 370 and resolve to restore the special status. God bless you,” she said on X.
‘Resolution on Article 370 only for cameras’: Omar Abdullah
Commenting on the resolution on Article 370, Omar Abdullah said it had no importance and was brought only for the cameras without proper consultation. “The reality is that the people of J&K do not approve of the decision taken on 5th August 2019. If they had approved, then the results today would have been different. How the House will reflect and discuss this will not be decided by any one member,” he said.
“The resolution brought today has no importance but it is only for the cameras. If there was a purpose behind it, then they would have discussed this with us before,” Abdullah added.
The Assembly convened at 10:30 am on Monday morning and was adjourned within an hour before J&K Lieutenant Governor’s address at 11:30 pm.
