PANAJI: High Court of Bombay at Goa has acquitted a person who was accused of raping and sexual assault on his step daughter at Chimbel in 2018.
The man was earlier sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for ten years and to pay a fine of Rs 20,000 for the offence punishable under Section 376 of IPC and to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of one year for the offence punishable under Section 506(ii) of IPC. He had appealed against the order.
“The Appellant stands acquitted by giving the benefit of doubt. The Appellant be set at liberty at once, if not required in any other offence,” stated the court order.
As per the complaint, the incident happened when the girl was raped by step father taking advantage that no one was at home.
The girl had maintained silence over the incident all this time, but had to speak out when she was found five months pregnant, she said.
