CUNCOLIM: A local citizens’ group has accused the Cuncolim Municipal Council of unfairly targeting a local trader, alleging that civic authorities have adopted a selective approach in enforcing regulations.
Addressing the media, members of the group claimed that action initiated against the businessman appeared disproportionate and raised concerns over what they described as unequal treatment of commercial establishments in the town. They questioned why similar action had not been taken against other entities facing comparable issues.
The group maintained that municipal authorities must act impartially and ensure that all businesses are subjected to the same standards and procedures. It argued that enforcement measures should be based solely on legal and administrative considerations rather than any external influences.
Representatives further stated that local entrepreneurs contribute significantly to the town’s economy and should be given a fair opportunity to address any compliance-related concerns through due process.
The controversy has sparked debate within the locality, with some residents calling for greater transparency in municipal decision-making and enforcement practices.
The group has urged the civic body to clarify the reasons behind its action and ensure that future decisions are implemented uniformly across all sectors.
Municipal authorities had not issued an official response to the allegations at the time of reporting.
