PANAJI: The state government has established committees for the districts of North and South Goa to investigate the causes of landslides and suggest ways to restore the areas.
The committees, chaired by each district collector, will deliver a study report to the state disaster management authority member and revenue secretary in three months.
The Chief Conservator of Forests, Principal Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department, Chief engineer of the water resources department, chief town planner of the TCP department, and the agriculture director are the members of the committees, as per the directive issued by secretary (revenue-II) Sandeep Gawade.
The member secretary of the panels is also the member secretary of the Biodiversity Board.
A number of other individuals have been appointed to committees, including Dr MK Janarthanam, professor in the department of botany at Goa University; Dr Suresh Kunkalikar, principal of Don Bosco Agriculture College; Dr Manoj Borkar, professor in the biodiversity research cell at Carmel College; Dr Rajiv Chaturvedi, assistant professor at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (BITS); Dr Pranab Mukhopadhyay, professor at Goa University; and Dr. Manoj Ibrampurkar, associate professor in the department of geology at Dhempe College of Arts and Science.
