SALIGAO: Saligao Police have registered a cheating case against a Ponda-based couple for allegedly duping a Sangolda resident of ₹30 lakh by misrepresenting the status of a property in Pilgao, Bicholim.
According to police, the complaint was lodged by Nitin Lila, a resident of Villa No. 3, Adhiraj Tuscany Villas, Sangolda. He alleged that between February 26 and March 2, 2026, the accused, Geetesh G. Naik and Roma Geetesh Naik, both residents of Khadpaband, Ponda, represented that the landed property bearing Survey Nos. 38/4, 38/8 and 38/10 at Pilgao, Bicholim, was free from all encumbrances.
Believing the representations, the complainant agreed to purchase the property and allegedly paid a token amount of ₹30 lakh towards the proposed sale.
However, the complainant later discovered that the property had already been mortgaged to Lokmanya Multipurpose Co-operative Society Ltd. and was also the subject of legal proceedings. Police said the accused allegedly had prior knowledge of these facts but failed to disclose them.
The complaint further alleges that despite receiving the token amount, the accused neither executed the sale deed nor refunded the money, causing wrongful loss to the complainant.
Based on the complaint, Saligao Police registered an offence on July 2. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Sarvesh Bhandari of Saligao Police Station.
