PANAJI: Covid vaccination program commenced in Goa along with the rest of the country today. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar officially launched the vaccination drive at GMC Hospital.
Multi Tasking Staff of GMC, Ranganath Bhojji, from Vade Succour was the first person in the state to be administered the Covid-19 vaccine in the state.
CM Pramod Sawant who was also present at the launch informed that 700 health care staff in the state will be vaccinated at 7 centers across Goa today.
GMC Dean Dr Bandekar informed that 4,000 GMC staffers, 2000 of whom are doctors and medical students have registered to get vaccinated for Covid at GMC.
The next round of vaccination drive will be held on next Saturday , he added. Subsequently, vaccination will be done 4 times a week, he informed.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ira Almeida was the first one to be vaccinated at the Margao Vaccination center and Nilesh Gadekar, multi-tasking staff(MTS) was given the vaccine at the District Hospital, Mapusa.
Prime Minister Modi virtually launched the nationwide drive which is termed as the world largest vaccination drive. Following the launch the first shot of the vaccine in India was given to a sanitation worker at AIIMS Delhi.
