PANAJI:To grant minority certificates to qualified members of minority communities, the state government has chosen taluka deputy collectors as the appropriate authority.
Members of minority communities notified under Section 2(c) of the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992, can now pick up the certificates from the Deputy Collector of their respective talukas, according to a notification released by Under Secretary (Revenue) Sandeep Gawade.
“All functions and duties pertaining to the issuance of minority certificates shall be performed by the competent authority in compliance with the provisions of the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992 and any other pertinent guidelines issued from time to time,” the announcement stated.
Minority community members seeking certificates for schooling and other purposes had previously faced challenges due to Goa’s lack of a designated body.
These issues are intended to be resolved and the procedure streamlined by the new system.
