PANAJI: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that he is working to formulate a plan to establish a Centre for Excellence in Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery in GMC
Rane held a meeting with Dr. Nishit Shah, prominent ENT and skull base specialist from Mumbai, along with doctors from GMC, to formulate a plan to establish a Center for Excellence in Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery at GMC.
“This collaborative effort involves Dr. Nishit Shah and his team, working alongside the Department of Neurosurgery at GMC,” said Rane.
He further said that Endoscopic skull base surgery, performed through the nasal cavity with endoscopes, offers several advantages, including reduced operating time, access to previously inaccessible areas and large tumors, absence of facial scars, improved functional outcomes, and shorter hospital stays.
“Our goal is to ensure GMC delivers quality healthcare, and this collaboration with Dr. Nishit Shah is poised to benefit many. We are on a trajectory to create a Center of Excellence at GMC, aspiring to make it the epitome of healthcare models in India,” he added.
The Health Minister also said that establishing this center will facilitate high-end surgery, maintaining the highest quality standards at an affordable cost. Dr. Nishit Shah is a widely recognized figure in the field, known for his surgical expertise in both the ENT and Neurosurgeon communities.
“Collaborating with him will help more patients in need of specialized surgeries, enabling us to provide standard care comparable to other tertiary specialized referral centers,” he added.
