New Delhi: Jasprit Bumrah’s uncharacteristic dip in form has become a talking point in IPL 2026, but Mumbai Indians batting coach Kieron Pollard has called for a more balanced perspective while assessing the premier fast bowler’s performances.
Bumrah has had a difficult run this season, managing only two wickets in eight matches while maintaining an average well above his usual standards. Although his economy rate remains respectable, his inability to make regular breakthroughs has added to Mumbai Indians’ inconsistent campaign, with the team currently placed near the bottom of the table.
His latest outing further highlighted the struggle, as he went wicketless and conceded 54 runs in four overs during a high-scoring contest in which Sunrisers Hyderabad successfully chased down a massive total. It marked one of the most expensive spells of his career and intensified scrutiny around his form.
Pollard, however, emphasized that a short phase of underperformance should not overshadow years of excellence. He pointed out that fluctuations are natural in a player’s career and that even top athletes are bound to experience difficult periods. According to him, it is important to remember Bumrah’s consistent contributions over the years rather than focusing solely on recent results.
While acknowledging that Bumrah has not met his own high benchmarks this season, Pollard reiterated that his quality and track record remain unquestionable. He expressed confidence that the pacer will soon rediscover his rhythm and return stronger, predicting that his impact performances will once again dominate conversations.
Pollard also addressed Mumbai Indians’ broader struggles, admitting the team has yet to deliver a complete performance this season. Despite the inconsistency, he maintained that the campaign is far from over, stressing that the squad remains motivated and mathematically still in contention.
On the high-scoring nature of matches, Pollard avoided making excuses, instead highlighting execution as the deciding factor. He added that the players remain determined to fight, underlining a positive mindset within the dressing room as they aim to turn their season around.
