New Delhi: Indian Air Force has achieved a historic milestone with Squadron Leader Saanya becoming the first woman officer to earn the prestigious Cat A Qualified Flying Instructor qualification. The achievement marks a significant moment in the country’s military aviation history and highlights the growing role of women in combat and training operations within the armed forces.
The Indian Air Force announced the achievement through a post on social media, describing it as a proud moment for the force and an inspiration for aspiring aviators across the nation. The force praised Squadron Leader Saanya for her dedication, determination, and pursuit of excellence in one of the most demanding areas of military aviation training.
The Cat A Qualified Flying Instructor qualification is considered one of the highest instructional standards in the Air Force. Officers who receive this recognition are entrusted with training and mentoring future pilots, a responsibility that requires exceptional flying skills, technical expertise, leadership, and operational knowledge.
The IAF also shared photographs of Air Chief Marshal A P Singh felicitating Squadron Leader Saanya for the landmark accomplishment. The recognition reflects the Air Force’s continued efforts to encourage greater participation of women across operational and leadership roles.
Over the past few years, women officers in the Indian Air Force have steadily broken barriers by taking on challenging assignments in fighter aviation, transport operations, and technical branches. Squadron Leader Saanya’s achievement adds another important chapter to that progress and is expected to motivate more young women to pursue careers in aviation and defence services.
The Air Force described her accomplishment as a symbol of perseverance and excellence, noting that it reinforces the organisation’s commitment to merit, professionalism, and equal opportunity within the service.
The milestone has been widely welcomed as a strong example of changing dynamics within India’s armed forces and the expanding opportunities available to women in military leadership and specialised operational roles.
