PANAJI: As the daily Positivity rate drops below two percent, the Expert Committee on COVID-19 Management has recommended that cinema halls, gyms, casinos, spas and other indoor business to be allowed to operate at full capacity.
The Expert Committee that met today is also of the view that educational institutions can too function in full capacity with normal school hours.
Expert Committee member Dr Shekhar Salkar said that the recommendations have been made to the Task Force, who will then suggest it to government for implementation.
With rising covid cases, the government had on January 4 introduced series of restrictions across State.
The directorate of health services informed that reports of genome sequencing received from the Pune-based National Institute of Virology has revealed that nearly 60% of the total 353 samples tested during the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic were of the highly-contagious Omicron variant.
As per the data provided by the DHS, 719 samples were sent to the particular laboratory for analysis in January and February this year.
So far, the DHS has received the reports of 353 samples of which 202 (57.22%) mutated samples were of Omicron, one sample was found positive for Delta variant. And in the remaining samples mutation was reportedly “not detected”.
