OLD GOA: Old Goa police have busted a job racket that has been operating in the state. While one of the accused has been arrested, another, who is a Nigerian, managed to escape.
The investigation was initiated following a complaint lodged by James Kumen, a resident of Merces, who has fallen victim to a fraudulent scheme.
The police have registered the case under Sections 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code.
The complainant had alleged that Laura, also known as Lyne Fernandes, posed as a recruitment agent and swindled approximately `40,000 by promising him a job abroad and also took his original passport.
The Old Goa police said that the investigation has revealed that Laura, along with her suspected Nigerian accomplice, has been advertising job opportunities in local newspapers in order to lure jobseekers, particularly from Goa.
