PERNEM: A 60-year-old resident of Parcem, Pernem, was allegedly cheated of ₹2.08 lakh by cyber fraudsters who impersonated SBI Pension Seva/YONO officials through a WhatsApp message and video call.
According to police, the offence was registered at Mandrem Police Station on July 1, 2026, following a complaint by Mohan Gangaram Kalanagutkar, a resident of Chonsai, Parcem.
The complainant stated that on June 15, 2026, at around 6.45 am, he received a WhatsApp message followed by a video call from an unknown person displaying the SBI logo and claiming to be an official of SBI Pension Seva/YONO.
Believing the caller to be genuine, Kalanagutkar shared his bank account details, CIF number and branch details. Later that day, he received an SMS alert regarding a transaction. On checking his bank account, he found that ₹2,08,000 had been withdrawn through unauthorised internet banking transactions without his knowledge or consent.
Police said the complainant was cheated through impersonation and online deception, resulting in a wrongful loss of ₹2.08 lakh.
Further investigation is being conducted by PI Girendre Naik of Mandrem Police Station.
