PONDA: The large number of furious villagers of Murdi- Khandepar locals, irked with construction of Bandhara work by imposing section 144, on Thursday gheraoed the Panchayat Body – including Sarpanch Sanajana Naik.
The villagers condemned the dictatorship of BJP government, which is forcing Bandhara project on them despite threat of flood after completion of the project. The locals demanded immediate stop to the work and condemned dictatorship of the BJP Government.
The villagers also urged Panchayat Body if required to approach Court over issue.
Sarpanch Sanjana Naik said Panchayat Body will take legal advice over issue.
The Villagers said they are opposing to the project as it is flood prone area and in past several houses were flooded in major flood in 1980 and recently in 2021.
It may be recalled that on last week on 18 August, South Goa Collector imposed section 144 in Murdi area for construction of Murdi-Sonarbaag barriage/ Bandhara cum pumping station for drinking water requirement in Priol and surrounding area by costing ₹ 88 Crore. However, the locals from Curti-Khandepar and Ganjem Usgao are opposing the project at both end, fearing flood.
*According to locals around 80 houses affect due to flood and incase of bandhara more villagers would suffer.
They say authorities failed to conduct EIA report and address the flooding issue.
