PANAJI: The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of Photo Electoral Rolls with January 1, 2027, as the qualifying date, aiming to ensure accurate, updated, inclusive and error-free electoral rolls in Goa.
As part of the preparatory exercise, polling stations will be rationalised in accordance with the Election Commission’s guidelines to improve voter convenience, accessibility and the overall efficiency of the electoral process.
The need for new polling stations will be assessed based on the prescribed limit of 1,200 electors per polling station, subject to the Commission’s approval wherever required. Sections will also be rationalised to ensure a more equitable distribution of electors. Efforts will be made to ensure that voters do not have to travel more than two kilometres or cross natural barriers to reach their designated polling stations.
The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Goa, has scheduled a meeting with recognised political parties on October 23, 2026, at 12 noon to discuss the SSR schedule. The participation and suggestions of political parties are expected to promote transparency and effective coordination among stakeholders.
According to the announced schedule, the rationalisation and rearrangement of polling stations will be completed by November 2, 2026, while the integrated draft electoral rolls will be published on November 12, 2026.
The period for filing claims and objections will run from November 12 to December 11, 2026. The disposal of claims and objections is scheduled to be completed by December 28, 2026, followed by the final publication of the electoral rolls on January 4, 2027.
The Chief Electoral Officer’s office has appealed to all stakeholders to extend their cooperation to ensure the successful conduct of the revision exercise and maintain accurate and inclusive electoral rolls.
The initiative is aimed at making polling stations more accessible, improving the accuracy of voter records and facilitating a smooth and voter-friendly electoral process.
