PANAJI: The Goa Cabinet has approved the Goa Motor Vehicle Tax Amendment Ordinance 2026, paving the way for a revised taxation system for construction equipment vehicles.
Under the new framework, a one-time tax will be levied at the time of registration, replacing the existing system of recurring taxes.
The revised structure will apply exclusively to construction-related vehicles, a move aimed at simplifying compliance and bringing greater clarity to stakeholders in the sector.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the decision is intended to streamline procedures while ensuring a more efficient tax regime for construction equipment owners and operators.
In another key decision, the Cabinet approved the Goa State Library Policy 2024–34, which seeks to promote reading habits and strengthen library infrastructure across the state.
The policy outlines measures to ensure the availability of books for competitive examinations, upgrade librarians, and address their service-related issues.
The government believes the initiative will help foster a stronger reading culture, particularly among students and youth.
Additionally, the Cabinet has accorded approval to extend the Debt Relief Scheme for mining-affected borrowers of financial institutions.
The scheme will now remain in force till 2027, providing continued financial support to individuals impacted by the slowdown in the mining sector.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the extension is aimed at offering sustained relief and stability to affected families and borrowers.
