PANAJI: On the occasion of Goa Statehood Day, Governor P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant extended greetings to Goans across the state and around the world, calling for collective efforts to build a progressive, sustainable and future-ready Goa.
In his Statehood Day message, Governor P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju described the occasion as a celebration of Goa’s spirit, identity and democratic journey. He said Goa’s attainment of statehood on May 30, 1987, marked a historic milestone that reflected the vision and determination of generations who safeguarded the state’s unique cultural heritage while embracing progress.
The Governor highlighted Goa’s achievements in literacy, social development, communal harmony and peaceful coexistence, stating that the state continues to demonstrate how development and heritage can coexist. He said Goa now has an opportunity to emerge as a leader not only in tourism but also in knowledge, innovation, culture, sustainability and quality of life.
Calling for greater focus on the future, the Governor stressed the need to empower youth through quality education, skill development and entrepreneurship opportunities. He also urged citizens to preserve Goa’s rivers, forests, coastline, villages, traditions, language and cultural heritage while pursuing economic growth.
The Governor acknowledged the contribution of farmers, fishermen, teachers, healthcare workers, government employees, entrepreneurs, artists and civil society members towards Goa’s development and appealed for continued commitment to constitutional values, public service and social harmony.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said Goa Statehood Day remains a proud milestone reflecting the aspirations, culture and democratic spirit of the people. He noted that statehood was achieved through the efforts and sacrifices of leaders, freedom fighters and citizens who worked to protect Goa’s identity and secure its rightful place in the Indian Union.
The Chief Minister said Goa would continue contributing towards the vision of a developed India by strengthening good governance, sustainable development, innovation, women’s empowerment, youth participation and welfare-oriented governance.
Highlighting the state’s achievements in education, healthcare, tourism, infrastructure, agriculture, technology and sustainable development, Dr. Sawant said the government remains committed to building a “Swayampurna Goa” and ensuring inclusive growth for all sections of society.
He credited the people of Goa for actively participating in the state’s progress and called upon citizens, particularly Nari Shakti, Yuva Shakti and Kisan Shakti, to contribute towards building a stronger, self-reliant and prosperous Goa aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Both leaders urged citizens to preserve Goa’s unique identity, environment and values while working together to ensure continued growth and prosperity for future generations.
