PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has appealed to the people of Goa to get themselves acquainted with consumer rights from the right perspective. He said the celebration of Consumer Rights Day is an appropriate occasion to promote the basic rights of all consumers and encourage those rights which are to be respected and protected.
Speaking as Chief Guest at the Goa State Consumer Rights Day celebrations held at Ravindra Bhavan, Sankhali today the Chief Minister said, the general public must know their consumer rights as it is crucial for empowering individuals to enlighten about purchasing decisions, demanding high-quality products, and holding businesses accountable for ethical and transparent practices.
Speaking about “Jago Grahak Jago” a consumer awareness program launched by the Ministry of Consumer, Government of India the Chief Minister, stated that this mission was implemented to spread awareness about consumer rights and to put an end to malpractices which are happening around us.
The Chief Minister spoke on the Prime Minister’s commitment to the welfare of GYAN. Elaborating on GYAN, which stands for Gareeb (poor), Yuva (youth), Annadata (farmer), and Nari Shakti (women) the Chief Minister said every person, especially from the economically weaker section, should be benefited from the various welfare schemes of the Government implemented nationwide, is the motto of the Prime Minister.
This was also a flagship programme and Packers Registration cum FSSAI Licence issuing camp for Self Help Groups in the state. The program was organised by the Department of Legal Metrology in collaboration with the District Rural Development Agency, the Directorate of Planning, Statistics and Evaluation and the Directorate of Food & Drugs Administration.
The celebration was attended by Smt. Reshmi Desai, Chairperson, Sankhali Municipal Council, Shri Gopal Surlkar, Zilla Panchayat Member, Shri Sanjit Rodrigues, IAS, Secretary, Legal Metrology, Shri. Arun Panchwadkar, Controller, Legal Metrology, Shri. Vijay B. Saxena- Director Planning & Statistics, Shri. Gopal Parsekar- Director Department of Rural Development, Smt. Deepali Naik, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency, South Goa. Smt. Sanjyot Kudalkar Designated Officer. Directorate of Food & Drugs Administration and others.
Sanjit Rodrigues, IAS, Secretary, Legal Metrology who delivered the welcome address said that Legal Metrology has always been concerned about micro women entrepreneurs and constantly helps them by way of bringing Government schemes and benefits to their doorstep under the flagship of Swayampurna Goa.
The logo and Citizen Charter brought out by the Department of Legal Metrology Goa was unveiled by the Chief Minister. The first copy of Goa Gram Magazine published by the Department of Legal Metrology and other books was also released at the hands of the Chief Minister.
Packers Registration Certificates and FSSAI licences for the members of Self Help Group were presented at the hands of the Chief Minister.
The legal Metrology Department of Goa is proactive in the state with respect to consumer awareness by registering many consumer clubs at educational institutions and conducting state-wide drives for students, start-ups and Self Help Groups.
Ms. Ranjana Malik compered the function and Shri Arun Panchwadkar proposed the vote of thanks.
