MARGAO: Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant today took a jib at former Prime Minister stating that despite being the first woman prime minister, she failed to give political reservation to woman in the country.
CM Sawant Attended and addressed the Orientation Program on Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act 2013, organized by Goa State Commission for Women in the presence of Chairperson of National Commission for Women, and other esteemed dignitaries.
“For the last 75 years since independence, despite having a woman Prime Minister, there has been no women’s reservation. For the first time, PM Modi has introduced 33% women’s reservation, which will bring women to power and involve them in policy making, allowing their issues to be addressed,” said Sawant
Sawant said that Government of Goa is promoting women’s empowerment, and we also need to build a good work culture that respects everyone, regardless of caste and greed.
He further said that the Union government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi brought in the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, intending to empower women through representation in legislature.
Appreciating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on empowering women through his women-led development approach without caste creed and religion, the Chief Minister stated that the government has taken remarkable steps to empower women, including the passing of the Women’s Reservation Bill, which seeks toprovide 33% reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies.
“Women are the Silent Strength behind India’s growth. It is our responsibility to make workplaces safe, secure and welcoming for women to work and contribute to Nation building to ViksitBharat,” said Sawant
CM said that the the Orientation programs are important to make women aware and empower about the laws, mechanisms available for their safety at workplace.
