PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that this year Goa faced shortage of water due to delay in rains and there is a need to increase our storage capacity.
“This year we have faced shortage of water due to delay in rain and thus we need to increase our storage capacity,” said Sawant
He further said that they need to construct bandhara in new places.
“Proposed Bandhara at Curti had been opposed by people he informed and sought support and cooperation from people to build bandhara in more places to avoid water scarcity in future,” the CM said
Sawant said that People residing in Mala area now don’t have to worry about floods in this rainy season and in future too.
He was speaking after inaugurating Flood Water Pumping Station organized by Water Resources Department under the initiative of Smart City Mission ”at Mala Panaji, today in the presence of Union MoS for Tourism, Shri. Shripad Naik, WRD Minister, Shri. Subhash Shirodkar, Revenue Minister, Shri. Atanasio Monserrate, Mayor CCP, Shri. Rohit Monserrate today .
Explaining about salient features of pumping system which cost around Rs 15.90 Cr Chief Minister said the pumping station has drainage connectivity which will improve the drainage in the surrounding area by reconnecting the drains and getting all storm water into the Mala lake from the areas of Altinho Hill and other upper areas of the catchment.
Speaking further Chief Minister said it will increase the storage capacity and added that it would control entry of water from the creek into the Mala area , two electrically operated Activator gates are installed, which will close during the high tide and open during the low tide. This is the second project in the state after sankhalim pumping station,he added .
