PANAJI: The State government has informed the High Court of Bombay at Goa that E-buses will commence plying in Smart City Panaji from July 1. The government also said that it gradually phase out diesel buses.
Matters related to other compliances of traffic management in Panaji city including the traffic chaos near casino areas will come up for hearing on July 3.
A request for an additional extension until July 1st was made by Advocate General Devidas Pangam to the Court during the hearing of a suo-motu Public Interest Litigation regarding the traffic plan in Panaji. Permission was granted by the Court, which postponed the matter until the July 3 hearing.
Against their previous three deadlines, the authorities have postponed the implementation of the colour-coded KTCL electric buses. This would be the fourth deadline to begin operating the fleet of buses, which were outrageously expensively acquired several months ago and will be used on various routes both inside and outside of Panaji.
New large electric buses with 49 seats, diesel-powered minibuses with 30 seats, electric minibuses with 26 seats, electric microbuses with 14 seats, and electric buggies with 11 seats are all part of the “Smart City Mission” bus service.
On July 3, the Court will also consider another compliance regarding Panaji’s traffic management. This case will focus on the traffic chaos, especially in the vicinity of the casinos and up to Divja Circle.
