PANAJI: The Goa government has imposed an immediate ban on all official foreign visits by public servants that are fully or partially funded through the state exchequer.
The decision comes in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal urging austerity measures and prudent expenditure.
An Office Memorandum issued on Thursday by Under Secretary Finance Naresh Gaude stated that no government-funded foreign travel by public servants will be permitted until further orders.
The government has also withdrawn all permissions that had already been granted for such overseas visits.
“Further, all approvals granted for official foreign visits shall stand cancelled with immediate effect,” the memorandum said.
The restrictions have been enforced with immediate effect and are expected to remain in place until the government issues fresh directions.
