PANAJI: Over 62,000 residents of the state of Goa have benefited from the Swayampurna Goa program, which has cost Rs 20.69 crore since it began.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant presented this information in response to a query posed by Venzy Viegas, a member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), during the current session of the state legislative assembly.
Every village panchayat in the state is assigned a dedicated representative, known as a Swayampurna Mitra, as part of the Swayampurna Goa initiative, which aims to close the gap between the government and local communities.
Every Saturday, these “Mitras” go to their designated areas and carry out a range of programs and activities in collaboration with several government agencies.
In addition to guaranteeing that every household has ccess to toilets, electricity, and tap water, the initiative also offers housing assistance and promotes a number of social security programs. These are important areas of development and welfare. Among other important areas, the Mitras concentrate on skill development, financial inclusion, environmental initiatives, and support for agriculture.
The program has made it possible to issue 3,739 Unique Disability Identity Cards, 1,353 Kisan Credit Cards, and enroll 2,212 families in the Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana health insurance scheme, according to the Chief Minister’s written response. According to the CM, 2,670 families have an electricity connection and 653 families have a water tap connection.
As a result of the program, 2,664 young people have registered for the Chief Minister’s Apprenticeship Scheme, and 2.37 lakh pupils in government and government-aided schools have had their eyes checked.
According to Sawant, the initiative has also helped the state reach 100% saturation in a number of government flagship programs, such as the Jal Jeevan Mission, Pradhan Mantri Grameen Sadak Yojana, and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).
According to the year-by-year breakdown of expenses, Rs 1.16 crore was spent in 2021–2022 and Rs 3.35 crore in 2022–2023. The amount spent increased significantly in 2023–2024 to Rs 15.78 crore; for the partial year 2024–2025 it is Rs 40 lakh.
