PANAJI: DGP Goa has asserted that it had implemented a number of initiatives to improve public awareness of cyber safety and fortify its capacity to handle cybercrimes.
The unit has increased the number of employees in the Cyber Crime Cell from 26 to 47.
Additionally, one officer has been assigned specifically to the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (14C) to expedite and communicate with relevant agencies about complaints.
Alok Kumar, the director general of police, disclosed that in addition to holding internal orientation sessions for police inspectors and cyber teams from every police station, they collaborated with the I4C to arrange a two-day training program for 800 police officers in order to increase knowledge.
“A Police Sub-Inspector has been assigned to the I4C to expedite and coordinate complaints that have been reported in Goa,” he said.
In accordance with Section 79(3)(b) of the IT Act, the State government published a notification giving the Superintendent of Police (Cyber Crime) the authority to remove unlawful content from the internet. As a result of requests to the Department of Telecommunications, a maximum of 78 escort websites have been prohibited.
Additionally, Goa Police and the Directorate of Education have partnered to train more than 450 school computer teachers, who will inform parents and kids about cyber safety.
In order to bolster our awareness efforts, 167 college students have volunteered. They will receive additional training and be encouraged to participate in public events.
In addition to other activities, a special session was held for more than 120 Village Sarpanches to raise awareness of cyber issues at the grassroots level, the statement stated.
DGP Kumar reaffirmed that, in terms of the percentage of lien amounts related to all financial fraud reported last month, Goa is ranked fifth in the nation.
Goa is only behind Lakshadweep (35%), Sikkim, Jharkhand, and Daman & Diu & Dadra & Nagar Haveli at 30.46 percent.
