PANAJI: The Goa government has expanded entrepreneurship education across all 10 Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), training more than 1,600 students under an initiative aimed at transforming skilled youth into entrepreneurs and job creators.
The Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (DSDE), in collaboration with the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), has implemented the Entrepreneurship Development initiative under the Mukhyamantri Swayam Rozgar Yojana (MSRY).
As part of the programme, 48 ITI instructors completed a six-day Faculty Mentor Development Programme (FMDP) at EDII, Ahmedabad, enabling them to mentor aspiring entrepreneurs within their institutes.
The initiative also reached 1,631 ITI trainees through Entrepreneurship Awareness Programmes (EAPs), where participants were introduced to business planning, innovation, startup opportunities, financial assistance and self-employment schemes.
According to the DSDE, the initiative reflects the government’s effort to ensure that ITIs produce not only technically skilled workers but also young entrepreneurs capable of generating employment and contributing to Goa’s economic growth.
The department said ITIs are evolving beyond traditional vocational education by integrating entrepreneurial thinking, digital competencies and business management skills alongside industry-oriented technical training, enabling students to pursue careers through either employment or self-employment.
