PONDA: After a poor response for the last week, today, maximum nominations were filed for Ponda Municipal Council Election.
On Monday, there were 32 nominations, compared to just nine last week.
A total of 41 nominations have been filed so far. Tomorrow 18 April, is the last day for filing nominations.
Ritesh Naik, PMC Chairperson and son of Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik, had filed his nomination from Ward 5 Khadpaband. In contrast, his younger brother Roy Naik filed from Ward 1 Shantinagar part. Both expressed confidence in winning the election.
Meanwhile, MGP, Congress and BJP-backed panels are formed and hoping to win the election.
Interesting battle in the family–Brother in law and Sister in law also contest against each other.
Sitting Councilors, namely Venkatesh Naik and Councilor Chandrakala Naik, are brother-in-law and sister-in-law of each other who had filed nominations from the same ward no 4. Venkatesh Naik, who contested and won last time from Ward number 5, is the brother-in-law of Councillor Chandrakala Naik, who had been elected from Ward 4.
Now, both of them had filed their nominations from Ward number 4, meaning they would contest against each other, and it would be an exciting battle among family members.
It may be recalled that Councilor Venkatesh Naik had supported her sister-in-law Chandrakala Naik last election, but this time, both would contest against each other
Councilor Venkatesh Naik had won the election three times, two times from Ward number 4 and had won the last election from Ward 5 as his Ward 4 was reserved for ladies the last time and had helped to elect sister-in-law Chandrakala Naik from it.
