ANJUNA: Days after three members of a family were assaulted during their four-day trip to Goa by a group of persons, including the staffer of the hotel they were staying in, the resort, in a statement, said that the guests flouted hotel rules and threatened the staff.
In a statement issued with regard to the incident, Spazio Leisure Resort claimed that complainant Ashwani Kumar, one of the injured persons, “violated the hotel’s no smoking policy by the swimming pool, which is a public area”.
“Said guests were requested by the hotel staff multiple times to stop smoking hookah by the pool, upon which said guests got verbally abusive and used derogatory expletives with the hotel staff,” it stated.
The statement further alleged that Jatin Sharma, another injured, even manhandled a hotel staffer and threatened him to leave the hotel or give a full refund of the trip.
“Ashwani Kumar was seen in the CCTV footage heading out on the road and, upon seeing the hotel staff member, started an argument with him and his brother and started clicking their photographs which were unwarranted and he verbally abused the boys…,” the report added in their statement.
They said that the actions of the complainant and his family reveal that he was “adamant about violating the hotel policy and trying to convey to the other guests that the hotel management cannot stop anyone from smoking hookah in a public place and was trying to justify his actions”.
The incident took place on March 5 when the family of eight were allegedly assaulted by a group of persons, including the hotel staff member, outside the resort they were staying in at North Goa’s Anjuna.
Police have arrested four persons, including the staffer identified as Royston Dias.
On Tuesday, Sharma told, “At the swimming pool, one of the staff members passed an indecent comment. When we raised it with the hotel staff, they suspended him for the period of our stay, but he started threatening us…”
He said that they were attacked when they were outside the resort.
