BAINA: Transport Minister and Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho on Tuesday urged BJP workers to remain united ahead of the upcoming elections, cautioning that individual political aspirations should not create a situation of “BJP versus BJP” within the party.
Speaking at the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ at Ravindra Bhavan, Baina, Godinho said party workers should avoid anti-party activities and ensure that internal differences did not affect the party’s functioning.
With elections approaching, Godinho also appealed to people to exercise caution against what he described as misleading statements and misinformation. He said the opposition had attempted to divert public attention through misinformation when the Goa Ujwala Yojana was announced.
Godinho said the large turnout of women at the programme demonstrated their appreciation for the government’s implementation of the Ujwala scheme. He said women had come forward in large numbers to thank the government for fulfilling its commitment.
He also spoke about the support extended by the government to self-help groups and micro and small enterprises. According to Godinho, several groups had received substantial assistance, with some progressing to the extent of exporting their products.
Godinho’s appeal for unity came against the backdrop of growing political activity ahead of the elections. Without naming individuals, he said personal ambitions should not be allowed to create divisions within the BJP.
He urged party workers to refrain from activities that could be construed as working against the party and called for collective efforts to strengthen the organisation.
Godinho also appealed to the public not to be swayed by statements that, according to him, were intended to create confusion ahead of the elections. He said people should assess the government’s work and welfare initiatives rather than rely on what he described as political propaganda.
He said the Ujwala scheme and other government initiatives had benefited people across different sections and maintained that the response from women at the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan demonstrated the importance of such welfare programmes.
Godinho reiterated that unity among party workers would be important as the BJP entered the election period and urged workers to keep the interests of the organisation above individual aspirations.
