PANAJI: The Goa Government has swung into action after it observed that several “ineligible” persons have benefited from a financial assistance scheme meant for Building and other Construction Workers as COVID relief.
The Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board have issued show-cause notices to those illegal beneficiaries.
“Scheme had been availed by several ineligible persons who claimed to be building and other construction work as per the Scheme framed by the said Board under the Act constituting the Board,” the Board said.
Further, the Authority has commenced ascertaining and identifying such ineligible beneficiaries to initiate appropriate proceedings in that regard, apart from ensuring recovery of money so availed by them through misleading and misrepresentation made to this Authority.
“Also, it has come to the notice of this Board in the course of verification pursuant to the directions of the Goa Lokayukta and which verification was conducted by the GBOCWWB through the Labour Inspectors of the Labour Department, Government of Goa, during the said verification, it has been verified that you have made a false declaration and claimed the benefits under the act,” the Board says.
