PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that six cases have already been registered under the PM Cares scheme for COVID-19 orphans. The state government will ensure that all eligible are covered.
“In Goa, there were 6 cases already registered under this scheme. The Govt will ensure that all the eligible are covered, and no one will be left,” said CM Sawant.
He further said that he was thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for extending the deadline for registration of applications under PM CARES meant for covid orphans.
CM Sawant also said that the Social Welfare Department is also having a separate scheme called ‘Bachpan’ where all orphan children are taken care including the covid orphans for whom a monthly stipend is also being given apart from benefits under
The scheme covers all children who have lost both parents, surviving parents, legal guardians, adoptive parents, or single adoptive parents due to the COVID 19 pandemic, starting from March 11, 2020, the date WHO has declared and characterised COVID-19 as a pandemic till February 28.
To be entitled to benefits under this scheme, the child should not have completed 18 years of age on the date of death of the parents.
The scheme was announced to ensure comprehensive care and protection of children who have lost their parent(s) to the COVID pandemic in a sustained manner, enable their well-being through health insurance, empower them through education and equip them for self-sufficient existence with financial support on reaching 23 years of age.
