Panaji: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Amit Patkar has raised concerns over the absence of basic safety measures at popular water bodies across the state, as rising temperatures draw large crowds to lakes, springs and waterfalls.
In a statement, Patkar questioned Chief Minister Pramod Sawant over what he described as administrative inaction at sites that are already identified as high-footfall areas.
“If these locations are known to attract large numbers of visitors, why is there no police presence? Why are trained lifesaving guards not deployed? Where is disaster management on the ground?” he asked.
Patkar criticised what he termed as a tendency to shift responsibility onto citizens, asserting that governance requires proactive intervention rather than reactive responses after incidents occur.
He called on the government to identify risk-prone zones, ensure deployment of safety personnel, and strengthen on-ground disaster preparedness mechanisms.
“People of Goa are not looking for explanations after accidents. They expect accountability and preventive action before lives are put at risk,” he said.
