PANAJI: Goa recorded a total of 46,39,165 tourist arrivals between January and May 2026, registering a growth of 0.39 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year, according to the latest figures released by the Department of Tourism.
The State continued to witness strong demand from both domestic and international travellers, reaffirming its position as one of India’s most sought-after tourism destinations.
The month of May 2026 recorded particularly encouraging numbers, with 9,69,090 visitors arriving in Goa, reflecting a 4.53 per cent increase over May 2025.
Of the total arrivals during the first five months of the year, 44,37,018 were domestic tourists, while 2,02,147 were foreign visitors. Tourism officials noted that the growth comes despite changing global travel trends and geopolitical uncertainties affecting several international markets.
Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte attributed the positive performance to Goa’s evolving tourism landscape and expanding range of visitor experiences.
“Goa’s tourism growth is being driven by strong connectivity, diversified experiences and increasing visitor confidence. While our beaches remain a major attraction, travellers are increasingly exploring Goa’s culture, heritage, spirituality, wellness offerings, hinterland experiences, festivals and culinary traditions,” Khaunte said.
He added that the diversification of tourism products is helping build a more resilient tourism economy while ensuring benefits reach communities across the State.
Domestic tourism continues to remain the primary driver of visitor arrivals, while international tourism is being supported through enhanced air connectivity, charter operations and cruise tourism initiatives.
Officials highlighted that Goa’s dual-airport infrastructure comprising Dabolim Airport and Manohar International Airport, has significantly improved accessibility and expanded the State’s reach across domestic and international markets.
Director of Tourism Kedar Naik said the figures reflect the strength and adaptability of Goa’s tourism sector.
“The steady growth recorded during the first five months of 2026 demonstrates the resilience of Goa’s tourism industry. Through focused destination development, improved connectivity and the promotion of diverse tourism experiences, Goa is attracting visitors throughout the year and encouraging them to explore different facets of the State,” Naik said.
He added that the Department remains committed to enhancing visitor experiences while promoting responsible and sustainable tourism growth.
With strong performance across both domestic and international segments, Goa enters the second half of 2026 with positive momentum. Tourism authorities believe the latest figures reflect the State’s continued efforts to build an inclusive, sustainable and long-term tourism ecosystem.
