MARGAO: Madganvcho Awaaz and youth leader Prabhav Naik has alleged major contradictions and confusion in RTI replies issued by Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation regarding the controversial two-storeyed Margao Garden project.
Addressing the media, Naik claimed that documents obtained under the RTI Act expose inconsistencies in official records and raise serious questions over transparency in the execution of the project.
Referring to minutes of a meeting reportedly held on March 27, 2026 at 3:30 a.m., Naik alleged that Digambar Kamat directed GSIDC officials to remove the cafeteria portion proposed on the first floor of Block 1, while retaining toilets and a sit-out area on the upper floor.
He further pointed to another review meeting dated April 17, where it was allegedly decided to remove the washroom proposed on the ground floor of the Ganesh Mandap while retaining the storeroom.
Naik also highlighted what he termed as a contradiction in RTI replies issued on April 21. According to him, meeting minutes clearly state that only a single bidder had quoted for the work, while the RTI reply issued on the same date reportedly stated that “no information is available to furnish” regarding the tender process.
“This is a clear attempt to hide facts from the people,” Naik charged, demanding complete transparency in the project.
He said citizens must be taken into confidence while preserving the heritage and iconic character of Margao Garden and warned against further concretisation of the site.
Naik further stated that Madganvcho Awaaz, along with local residents, would strongly oppose any move to construct a two-storeyed structure inside the garden premises.
He also questioned the urgency to complete the work before Ganesh Chaturthi, stating that a temporary waterproof pandal could be arranged if necessary, instead of carrying out “haphazard demolition and concretisation” in the name of urgency.
