MAPUSA: A 47-year-old Gujarati man was arrested by Goa police for allegedly raping a female tourist in a resort in Assanora hamlet.
Laxman Shiyar (47), according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Jivba Dalvi, was arrested for raping a woman in a luxury resort in Assnora village.
Prior to their vacation to Goa, the victim and accused were introduced to one another on a flight, according to Dalvi.
In accordance with the police complaint, the accused “induced the victim to give her mobile phone number and later started contacting her” following their introduction on the flight.
On August 23, 2023, “started calling her on her mobile phone while the victim and accused were on Goa tour on their own, and further forced her to come to his resort at Assonora under pretense of showing amenities available in said Resort,” Dalvi said, quoting the complaint.
He claimed that the accused assaulted the victim inside the resort’s room while taking advantage of the fact that she had arrived alone and threatened “not to disclose about the incident to anybody.”
Dalvi claimed that after receiving the report on Thursday, police teams were organized and the suspect was taken into custody in the village of Thivim.
Initially, it was discovered via a mobile location that the accused had left the resort and was travelling around the Panaji region.
Additionally, it was discovered from a mobile location that the accused is going in the direction of Mapusa. The team then began looking for him and, after careful investigation, located the suspect, Laxmanbhai Shiyar, 47, of Gujarat, in the Thivim area.
