PANAJI: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar reacting to the High Court verdict said that the order is setting a bad precedent in our country and that the 10th schedule is destroyed by the order.
“This order is setting a bad precedence in our country where after election few MLAs come together, may take the money and can break away. The very spirit of the 10th schedule is destroyed by the order,” said Chodankar
He further said that the the10th schedule is to encourage defection or to prevent it and the SC has to make clear the intent of it.
“Even though the HC has dismissed our petition, We are confident that people of Goa are going to disqualify them on 10th March,” he added
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Girish Chodankar had filed a disqualification petition against 10 party MLAs who switched over to the BJP in July 2019.
Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party MLA Sudin Dhavalikar had also filed a similar petition before the court against its two MLAs, who joined the BJP in the same year by splitting the regional party.
