New Delhi: Lebanon Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib has claimed that former Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah had agreed to a ceasefire with Israel shortly before he was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut last week. Speaking to an American public broadcaster, Bouhabib said they also informed the United States and French representatives about the ceasefire decision.
In an interview with CNN, Habib stated, “He (Nasrallah) agreed, he agreed.” He explained Lebanon had fully consented to the ceasefire after consulting with Hezbollah, and communicated this to American and French officials. He claimed that Israel’s Netanyahu had also agreed to the ceasefire proposal.
“The Lebanese House Speaker, Mr Nabih Berri, consulted with Hezbollah and we informed the Americans and the French about the agreement. They told us that Mr Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also agreed to the statement issued by both presidents,” he added.
Funeral Of Nasrallah On Friday
According to reports, the funeral of Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike, will be held on Friday.
Hassan Nasrallah was in a bunker in the southern suburb of Dahiyeh when it was hit. While Hezbollah’s statement last Saturday confirming Nasrallah’s death did not say how exactly he was killed, Reuters said his body had no direct wounds and that it appeared the cause of death was blunt trauma from the force of the blast.
According to a Reuters report, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had warned the Hezbollah leader to flee Lebanon days before he was killed in an Israeli strike.
