CANACONA: Due to incessant and torrential rains , at least two incidents of house walls collapse and several trees including Coconut trees were reported as all the three major rivers flowed on their brinks with stagnations at several other places all over Canacona taluka.
The mud walls of houses of Shrikant Mhalgo and Remedio D’Costa at Khotigao and Agonda villages, respectively, came crashing down amidst the heavy and torrential rains lashing the taluka in the past few days. In both the incidents no injuries to the people were reported. At Khotigao, the incident took place around 5 am on Thursday, when the family of Mhalgo were sleeping in one room as the walls of another room collapsed. In the incident at Agonda, the mud walls of the unoccupied house of D’Costa collapsed at an unknown time, rendering the house unusable for the family.
In a several trees falling and uprooting incidents, including coconut trees breaking down and falling on the roads and other places amidst torrential rains were reported in several parts of the taluka, including Agas (Loliem), Sadolxem, Ardhafond, Hathipaul, and Muthal (Poinguinim), Avem (Khotigao), Mastimoll, Delem and Coloomb (Canacona municipality), Agonda and Khola areas.
In the meantime, Electricity department took a 5- hours power shut-down from 9 am onwards for carrying out line maintenance works including trees cutting and creepers clearing exercise on Thursday.
