PANAJI: The Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-CCARI), Goa, participated in the 51st State Level Student Scientist Science Exhibition held from February 14-16, 2024. This three-day event was hosted by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi, in collaboration with SARAL, Government of Maharashtra, SCERT Pune, and YBI School Maharashtra and took place in Sawantwadi, Maharashtra. The inauguration of the exhibition was graced by the esteemed presence of Honourable Eknath Shinde, Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
Scientific Discourse on Millets
One of the highlights of the exhibition was a scientific talk titled ‘Millets: A Unique Nutritious Food’, delivered by Dr Gopal Mahajan, Senior Scientist, and Vinod Ananda Ubarhande, ACTO (FS), representing ICAR-CCARI, Goa. This talk aimed to raise awareness among participants regarding the nutritional value of millet and their health benefits. Moreover, it sheds light on the crucial role millets and certain crops play in securing food sustainability amidst uncertain climatic conditions.
ICAR-CCARI’s Initiatives
ICAR-CCARI has been engaged in initiatives to promote millet production and consumption. Dr Parveen Kumar, Director of ICAR-CCARI, provided guidance and support to the team to raise awareness about millets during the exhibition. Their efforts include a series of lectures, talks, capacity-building programs, and field demonstrations aimed at educating farmers and consumers alike about the significance of millet in ensuring food security and addressing climate change challenges.
