Shubman Gill top-scored with 90 and Rishabh Pant hit 60 as the hosts posted 263 in reply of Left-arm New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel picked a five-wicket haul to bring the guests back in the game. He finished with figures of 5 for 103. Washington Sundar led India’s fightback towards the end with 38 not out off 36 balls but New Zealand managed to stop their opponents to a low score.
