Panaji: India delivered a commanding performance to enter the semifinals of the Thomas Cup with a resounding 3-0 victory, reinforcing their status as strong contenders for the title. The team’s clinical display has reignited excitement among fans, reflecting the same confidence and unity that defined their historic triumph in 2022.
The win was powered by standout performances from key players, including Lakshya Sen and Ayush Shetty, who played crucial roles in sealing the tie. Their consistent form and composure under pressure have been central to India’s impressive run in the tournament.
Amid the national team’s success, attention has also turned to emerging talent from Goa. Nine-year-old Amaira Dhumatker has been gaining recognition for her association with top-level training environments in Bengaluru, where she has been mentored alongside elite players. Fondly referred to as a promising young talent, she represents the growing strength of grassroots badminton in the state.
Amaira is set to compete on home soil at the upcoming Yonex Sunrise Sub Junior U13 National Ranking Tournament, scheduled from May 13 to 18 at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium. She will participate in both singles and doubles events in the under-13 category, offering local fans an opportunity to witness her skills firsthand.
The convergence of India’s international success and the rise of young athletes like Amaira highlights a positive phase for Indian badminton. With a strong pipeline of talent and increasing grassroots participation, the sport continues to build momentum across the country, particularly in regions like Goa where passion for badminton is steadily growing.
