BCCI Implements Strict New Policy to Revamp Indian Cricket Team’s Performance
In the wake of the Indian cricket team’s disappointing performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a stringent 10-point policy aimed at enhancing discipline, unity, and overall performance within the team. This new policy is a direct response to the team’s recent setbacks and is designed to foster a more cohesive and focused squad.
The BCCI’s new guidelines are comprehensive and far-reaching, targeting various aspects of a player’s life and commitments. One of the key restrictions is the limitation on personal staff and family accompaniment during tours. Families of players will now be allowed to join them for only two weeks on tours that last 45 days or more. This move is intended to minimize distractions and ensure that players remain fully committed to the team’s objectives.
Mandatory Domestic Cricket and Strict Travel Rules
To maintain a strong connection with the domestic cricket ecosystem, the BCCI has made it mandatory for players to participate in domestic matches to be considered for national teams or central contracts. This policy ensures that players stay match-fit, contribute to the development of talent, and strengthen the domestic structure. It also provides emerging players with opportunities to compete alongside top cricketers, ensuring a continuous progression of talent.
Players are now barred from engaging in personal shoots or endorsements during ongoing series or tours, a measure to prevent any potential distractions. Additionally, the BCCI has emphasized that all players must travel with the team to and from matches and practice sessions, discouraging separate travel arrangements with their families. This rule is crucial for maintaining discipline and team cohesion.
Restrictions on Personal Staff and Practice Sessions
The use of personal staff, including managers, chefs, assistants, and security personnel, on tours is strictly restricted unless explicitly approved by the BCCI. This ensures that the focus remains on team operations and minimizes logistical challenges. Players are also required to stay for the entire duration of scheduled practice sessions and are not allowed to leave tours or series midway unless it is absolutely necessary.
Financial and Accommodation Arrangements
For family visits, the BCCI will cover shared accommodation costs, but all other expenses will be borne by the player. This arrangement is part of the broader effort to balance personal and professional commitments without compromising the team’s performance.
Disciplinary Actions for Non-Compliance
Non-compliance with these new policies can result in severe disciplinary actions. The BCCI has warned that players who fail to adhere to these guidelines may face suspension from BCCI-conducted activities, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), and deductions from their retainer amounts or match fees. The policy emphasizes that any exceptions or deviations must be pre-approved by the Chairman of the Selection Committee and the Head Coach.
