MARGAO: PWD Minister Digambar Kamat has urged people to support development projects in Goa and called for genuine concerns to be addressed through dialogue instead of opposing projects outright.
Kamat said Goa’s development should not be held back by opposition to projects merely for the sake of opposing them. He stressed that any genuine issues arising from a project should be discussed and resolved through consultation.
“If there is any genuine problem because of any project, let’s sit, talk and resolve the issue,” Kamat said, adding that a tendency to oppose every development project could ultimately result in a loss for the state.
Kamat also said Goa should emerge as an educational hub and appealed to people to support educational projects that can contribute to the state’s future growth.
Highlighting the government’s development vision, Kamat said Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has set a target of achieving a “Vikasit and Swayampurna Goa” by 2037, in line with the broader vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047”.
On infrastructure, Kamat said Goa has a road network of around 6,062 kilometres and that the Union government has provided approximately ₹16,000 crore for its development. He highlighted major projects including the Western Bypass, Atal Setu and Porvorim Corridor.
Kamat said Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari is scheduled to inaugurate the Porvorim Corridor on September 10, 2026.
He also highlighted various welfare and development initiatives of the Central and state governments, saying true development should ultimately improve the quality of life of citizens through better healthcare, education, employment and infrastructure.
Kamat said the Swayampurna Goa initiative and various state welfare schemes would play an important role in achieving the goal of a developed and self-reliant Goa.
