New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation has successfully extradited a wanted fugitive, Mohammad Navas Kakkat Ismail, from the United Arab Emirates, marking a significant breakthrough in an organised crime case. The accused, who was the subject of an Interpol Red Notice, was brought back to India and taken into custody upon arrival.
Ismail was wanted by Delhi Police in connection with multiple offences, including extortion, cheating, criminal misappropriation, forgery, and impersonation. Investigators identified him as a key conspirator in a racket that allegedly involved posing as government officials to extort money.
After being traced abroad, he was located and detained by authorities in the UAE following coordination through Interpol channels. The CBI had earlier facilitated the issuance of a Red Notice at the request of Delhi Police, enabling international law enforcement agencies to identify and detain the accused.
Following his arrest, Indian authorities submitted a formal extradition request to the UAE. After sustained coordination and legal procedures, Ismail was handed over to Indian officials and flown back to the country. He arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport, where he was taken into custody by Delhi Police.
A Red Notice serves as a global alert requesting law enforcement agencies worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest individuals wanted in criminal cases. The successful extradition highlights growing international cooperation in tackling cross-border crime.
Officials noted that in recent years, more than 150 fugitives have been brought back to India through similar coordination efforts involving Interpol. The latest operation underscores the increasing effectiveness of global policing networks in tracking and repatriating accused individuals facing serious charges.
