New Delhi: India national cricket team is set to announce its squads for the upcoming Test and ODI series against Afghanistan national cricket team, with major attention centred on the future of senior stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
The selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar is meeting in Guwahati to finalise the squads for the one off Test beginning on June 6 and the ODI series that follows. Although the Test match is not part of the ICC World Test Championship cycle, it remains an important assignment as India continues preparations for a packed international calendar.
One of the biggest talking points ahead of the announcement is whether the selectors will field a full strength squad or choose to rest key players, including top ranked Test bowler Jasprit Bumrah. With workload management becoming increasingly important, discussions around rotation policies are expected to play a significant role in the selection process.
Speculation has also intensified regarding the long term plans involving Kohli and Rohit, both of whom remain central figures in Indian cricket despite ongoing conversations about transition and squad rebuilding.
Alongside the experienced names, the selection meeting is also expected to focus on emerging talents. Reports suggest Jammu and Kashmir pacer Auqib Dar is being considered for the Test squad, while Delhi’s Prince Yadav could receive an opportunity in the ODI setup.
The Afghanistan series is likely to serve as an important platform for India to assess bench strength and provide opportunities to younger players while balancing the experience of established stars.
Fans and analysts will closely watch the final squad announcement, particularly for clues about India’s future direction in both red ball and white ball cricket ahead of major international tournaments and bilateral assignments later this year.
