MARGAO: Konkan Railway Police have written to railway authorities highlighting fire safety concerns at Margao Railway Station following a fire incident reported on May 29, 2026.
In the communication, police pointed out that although fire tenders reached the spot promptly, the lack of a dedicated firefighting water pipeline and limited access to the affected area posed challenges in controlling the blaze.
The letter stated that firefighters had to spray water from a considerable distance due to the absence of suitable firefighting infrastructure within the station premises.
Konkan Railway Police have recommended installation of a dedicated firefighting water pipeline with strategically placed hydrant points at the station. They have also suggested creating a direct access route to the platform to allow quicker movement of fire tenders during emergencies.
With the station witnessing increasing passenger movement, authorities have been requested to treat the issue as a priority to strengthen public safety and emergency preparedness.
