PORVORIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today tried to settle the growing concern with regards to the proposed three new railway stations by Konkan railway at Sarzora, Neura and Mayem, stating that the move will fecilitate fast train movement for local passengers.
As the opposition raised apprehension with regards to the three stations raising concern that the same may lead to cargo like coal transportation, Sawant rufuted the claims.
Yuri Alemao, LoP and MLA Viresh Borkar raised questions over new railway stations stating, Environmental assessment done regarding the new railway station.
“Will the government take locals into confidence? Can we take an undertaking from Konkan Railway to not transport coal in the future?,” Yuri questioned
MLA Viresh Borkar said that People of the constituency have opposed Railway station at Neura.
“We are not bothered about who is supporting the setting up of Railway station or not” said Borkar
Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho said that Konkan Railway proposal of 3 new railway stations-in Sarzora, Neura and Mayem is not something new and that Goa government t cannot ask them to stop as it is needed to improve efficiency and operations.

Minister Mauvin Godinho clarified that the new railway stations are part of the Konkan Railway project and are not related to the Goa government or transport departments.
He stated that the planning for these stations was done in 1998 for operational reasons, as they are required to reduce delays.
The Chief Minister stated that Neura railway station is intended for railway crossings. He requested MLA Viresh Borkar to submit a letter to facilitate more train stops at Karmali railway station.
Additionally, he mentioned that objections regarding Neura railway station have been submitted to Konkan Railway.
“I will speak to Railway Minister; will request for more train stoppage at Karmali station; it will help commuters; also give business to local taxis, the Neura proposal is just for crossing and not for trains to halt,” said Sawant
Sawant also said that Environmental assessment will be conducted and these railway stations are intended for crossing and public purposes.
“Fast trains from Pernem to Canacona in a short time will benefit the public. Unless there is a crossing railway station, local trains to Goa will not be useful,” said CM
