KHANAPUR: A 42-year-old youth from Vadgaon was killed in a horrific accident involving a dumper and a car in Chorla Ghat on Tuesday night. The accident occurred near Delta Resort, leaving the car completely mangled. Rescue personnel had to cut a portion of the vehicle with a cutter to recover the victim’s body.
The deceased has been identified as Sham alias Ravalnath Tuljai (42), a resident of Anandnagar, Vadgaon.
According to information available, Sham Tuljai was travelling by car from Goa towards Belagavi. While passing near Delta Resort in Chorla Ghat, his car was reportedly hit by a dumper travelling towards Goa from the Jamboti side. The impact severely damaged the car, trapping Tuljai inside.
After receiving information about the accident, a rescue team and Khanapur police reached the spot. During inspection, it was confirmed that Tuljai had died. However, the severely damaged condition of the car made it difficult for the rescue team to remove the body.
A vehicle cutter was subsequently brought from Khanapur. Using the cutter, rescue personnel cut through part of the car and eventually recovered the body. The body was later shifted to the government hospital in Khanapur late at night.
Following the accident, the extent of damage to the car initially raised concerns about the possibility of additional passengers being trapped inside. However, after the rescue operation was completed, it was confirmed that Sham Tuljai was the only person travelling in the car.
A complaint has been registered at Khanapur Police Station, and further investigation is underway. Police are investigating the exact cause of the accident, the role of the dumper driver and other circumstances surrounding the incident.
