MARGAO: Goa Forward Party (GFP) president and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai has alleged a conspiracy to shut down Dabolim Airport, claiming that the Navy is also part of the developments surrounding the airport’s future. The government, however, has clarified that there is no move to close Dabolim Airport.
Sardesai alleged that Dabolim could be forced to shut if the BJP-led government continues in power. He also referred to statements made by BJP leader Mauvin Godinho, claiming that they indicated a political choice between the continuation of Dabolim Airport and the present government.
According to Sardesai, the issue has wider implications for Goa, particularly amid the continued operation of Manohar International Airport at Mopa. He has maintained that Dabolim should remain operational and has questioned any development that could affect its future.
The government has rejected the suggestion that there is a plan to close Dabolim Airport and has maintained that no such decision has been taken.
Meanwhile, Sardesai also addressed Congress MLA Carlos Ferreira’s late-night visit to the People’s Path project in Fatorda.
Sardesai said work on the project, including coconut tree plantation, is being monitored to ensure that it is completed before the proposed inauguration ahead of Dussehra.
Clarifying Ferreira’s presence at the site late at night, Sardesai said the Congress MLA, who is a resident of Fatorda, happened to pass by the location and stopped to see the ongoing work. He said the visit was purely coincidental and had no political angle.
Sardesai said efforts are being made to complete the People’s Path project within the targeted timeframe.
