MARGAO: In preparation for the Goa Legislative Assembly General Elections 2027, the District Monitoring Committee for Accessible Elections (DMCAE) of Kushavati District held its first meeting at the Mathany Saldanha Administrative Complex in Margao to strengthen accessibility measures for voters.
The meeting was chaired by Gurudas S. T. Desai, Collector and District Election Officer, Kushavati District, in the presence of Paresh Faldessai, Nodal Officer for Assured Minimum Facilities (AMF), Kushavati, and other committee members.
The discussions focused on ensuring an inclusive, accessible and barrier-free electoral process, particularly for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and senior citizens. The committee brings together representatives from various departments and institutions with expertise in accessibility, social welfare, education, special education and infrastructure to coordinate efforts towards making the electoral process more accessible.
Meanwhile, training and awareness programmes on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for stakeholders involved in the election process have commenced across Kushavati District ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
EVM Demonstration Centres have been established in all Assembly constituencies within the district to familiarise citizens with the functioning of the machines and the voting procedure.
The general public, particularly newly enrolled voters and first-time voters, are encouraged to visit these centres to gain hands-on experience and understand how EVMs operate.
The initiatives aim to improve voter awareness, promote participation and ensure that eligible citizens can exercise their democratic rights with confidence.
The district administration has urged voters to familiarise themselves with the voting process and participate in the awareness drive as part of preparations for the forthcoming elections.
