*Karan, Janhavi emerge Men’s and Women’s winners

PANAJI: In a stunning showcase of skill and dominance at badminton hall, Peddem, Harsh Mane, Tejan Fallary, Yash Desai, Sakshi Kurbhelgi, and Ashmeet Parsekar emerged victorious in multiple categories, securing double crowns each in the Late Pandurang Prabhu Moye State Badminton Ranking 2023. Karan Dhavaskar and Janhavi Mahale were at their best to emerge champions in the prestigious Men’s and Women’s Singles section.
Others who emerged double crown winner were Sparsh Kolwalkar, Advait Balakrishnan, Shreya Mehta, Sufiya Shaikh and Astrid Dias. Michael Ryan Mare (BS U11), Avni Khyalia (GSU11), Anaya Kamat (GD U13), Shane D’Souza and Saanvi Audi (U15 Mixed Doubles), Aarush Pawaskar (U15 BD), Lydia Barreto (Senior Mixed Doubles), Arjun Bhagat (U17 BD), Soumya Deshpande (U17GD), Malaika Lobo and Synnovia Dsouza (GDU19), Shivanjali Thite (GDU15) and Arnav Saraf (BDU13) were the other notable winners in the season opening tournament.
The 1st Ranking tournament in the 2023-24 GBA Calendar season was organized by Mapusa Shuttlers in association with Goa Badminton Association and the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs. The five day event witnessed over 350 entries with Goa’s best players competing for top honours in an exceptional display of talent and determination.
In an exciting men’s singles finals, top seed Karan Dhavaskar, prevailed over Ayaan Shaikh, emerging winner in an engaging 21-15 15-21 21-12 match. The women’s singles finals witnessed a commanding performance by Janhavi Mahale who defeated Aarohi Coutoncar by 21-12 21-8 .
In the Men’s Doubles section, Arjun Fallary and Tejan Fallary emerged victorious, defeating Floyd Araujo and Fredrick Fernandes with a score of 21-18, 21-15. Tejan Fallary and Lydia Barreto triumphed over Aryaman Saraf and Nidhi Dessai with a score of 22-20, 21-19 to secure the Senior Mixed Doubles title. In Boys Singles U13, Sparsh Kolwalkar secured the title by defeating Ansh Chaurasia with a score of 25-23, 21-15. Arnav Saraf and Sparsh Kolwalkar emerged as Boys Doubles U13 champions, defeating Ansh Chaurasia and Shaan C K with a score of 21-13, 21-12.
Advait Balakrishnan showcased his skill and determination, winning against Aarush Pawaskar with a score of 21-13, 15-21, 21-13 to capture glory in Boys Singles U15. In Boys Doubles U15, the two Singles finalists. Aarush and Advait teamed up to emerge victorious, defeating Arnav Saraf and Owais Tahasildar with a score of 21-12, 21-13.
Harsh Mane demonstrated his talent and emerged as the champion in Sub Junior (U17) Boys singles, defeating Yash Desai with a score of 21-12, 21-12. Harsh continued his winning streak, securing the Junior U19 singles title against Pranav Naik with a commanding score of 21-6, 21-11.
Yash Desai secured twin doubles glory, winning the U17 and U19 Boys doubles. In Boys Doubles U17, Yash teamed up with Arjun Bhagat to secure a thrilling 23-21, 17-21, 21-13 win over Harsh Mane and Shaheen C K in an edge-of-the-seat thriller. In Boys Doubles U19, Yash along with Ashmeet Parsekar defeated Parth Joshi and Shrijay Naik with a score of 21-10, 21-9. Ashmeet Parsekar and Shreya Mehta delivered an outstanding performance, defeating Chirag Mahale and Janhavi Virnodkar with a score of 21-16, 21-7 to win the U19 mixed doubles.
Sakshi K emerged dominant force in Girls U17 and 19 Singles, registering commanding wins over Shreya Mehta (21-6, 21-14 in U17) and Aarohi Coutoncar (21-6, 21-9 in U19) categories.
